Ullesthorpe 2026

You may recall that some time in the distant past you committed your precious time and cash to something called GHOFAT 26.

 

Well, it is still here, and it has come back to bite you in the backside and your wallet I am afraid. It is now time to settle the outstanding account for your accommodation and golf for your visit to Ullesthorpe Court Hotel and Country Club on the 24th and 25th August 2026. So if you are able to raid the house keeping bank account undetected, please send by BACS transfer the balance of £165.00 to my account as follows......

 

 

If you have requested a buggy, payment for these will be on the day in the Pro Shop. I will do my best to pair up riders to share the buggy cost.

 

If you were fortunate enough to have taken home a Trophy in 2025, please have your name engraved in a suitable place, and try to remember to bring it with you on the 24th August.

Accommodation ..Single occupancy, Dinner ,B&B, 2 rounds of golf.

Hi fellow golfers,

 

it really does seem unbelievable, but it is a fact, we are once again looking for a venue for GHOFAT in 2026. Following 27 years of GHOFAT, and the annual search for a suitable venue that will tick most of the boxes, we are gradually getting to the bottom of the barrel !!

 

It does appear to be an easy task on the face of it. After all we are only looking for a decent golf course are we not? And we all know that there are thousands of great golf courses up and down the country. Well, yes, but we will be seeking a few extra requirements after 27 years of experience, and that sometimes shortens the options somewhat!!

 

So what are we looking for ?

 

1... Some where in the centre of the UK, mainly the Midlands area. Our players come from far and wide and it is impossible to have a short drive for everyone.

,

 

2...We need a Hotel  with accommodation of around 22 rooms.

 

 

3...An interesting, not too demanding golf course, with buggies available.

 

 

4...A decent level of catering for our evening meal in a pleasant restaurant ,and bar services in comfortable surroundings.

 

 

5... Comfortable rooms to a good standard.

 

 

6...All at a price that represents good value.

 

Over the years we have stayed at many of the large group Hotels such as De Vere, Macdonald, Q Group etc, and all have had good and not so good points. Some concerning the golf course, and some relating to the Hotel service, or lack of it!

 

The larger Hotels sometimes offer two golf courses. We have , on many occasions, preferred to play at a venue with only one course, giving us the opportunity to play the same course on the second day, with the knowledge gained the day before fresh in our minds.

 

We have played Ullesthorpe three times now, being a smaller Best Western Hotel it has always provided a friendly and excellent standard of service and accommodation. The golf course is interesting and not too challenging for old farts like us. The cost also is reasonable, when compared with the larger group Hotels. So the first choice for 2026 is Ullesthorpe.

 

Having said that, if any of you have a golf course with an Hotel in mind, that meets the above criteria, I will check it out and get back to you all. To secure the Ullesthorpe Hotel for 2026, I have to pay the holding deposit by the end of January. Members deposit of £35 are not required till mid February, so you all have time to get an advance from your Saturday paper round job to fund your advance payment for the August fun and games.

 

There will be a further bulletin with full details mid February, so stay sharp !!
